Night rating

Course description

The objective of this course is to provide the simple and efficient techniques for the holder of a PPL to carry out night VFR flights safely. In addition to providing the technical skills the course will also include the regulatory aspects required for night flight.

A pilot with a night rating will then have the privilges of an LAPL or PPL to fly in night VFR conditions according to FCL.810 of EU regulation n° 1178/2011.

Course entry requirements

In order to begin the night rating course the pilot must be 17 years old and hold:

  • a valid LAPL(A) or PPL(A),
  • a valid class 1 or 2 medical certificate.

Course details

The course is spread over one or two weeks according to the weather conditions. It begins with the ground school necessary for night flight and continues with practical flight training. It includes 4 hours of flight training with an instructor, including a cross country flight of at least 1h30 as well as a solo flight of 1 hour on a single egine piston aircaft.

Diplomas and examinations

A certificate of completion of the night rating module is signed by the head of training.


The training course is over 1 to 2 weeks depending on the waether conditions.
